Why Should we move?
Movement is more than
exercise. It’s a way to connect
with ourselves, understand our
bodies and support our
wellbeing.
♫
Move to music, shift
your mood
Moving to music can
stimulate the brain’s
reward systems and is
associated with the release
and regulation of
chemicals including
dopamine and serotonin,
which are involved in
motivation, pleasure and
mood.
💛
A healthy way to express
emotions
We don’t always have the
words to explain how we feel.
Movement gives us another
language — a way to release
energy, express emotions and
explore feelings in a safe and
positive way. Over time, this
can support emotional
awareness and regulation.
A sure way to grow
confidence
When we feel at home in our
bodies, we can begin to feel
more at home in our minds.
Movement gives us time to
explore, express and embody
who we are — building the
self-awareness and
confidence to trust
ourselves, take up space and
speak up.
Move, remember, repeat
Learning choreography
asks the brain to remember
sequences, coordinate
movement and stay
focused. Regularly
practising movement can
therefore provide an
enjoyable way to challenge
memory, attention and
coordination.
Move mindfully, be
present
When we dance
intentionally, we have to pay
attention to our body, the
music, the rhythm and what
comes next. That focus can
bring us into the present
moment, giving the busy mind
less room to wander.
Excellent for young children
to learn to focus and move
intentionally.
Learning to care for our
bodies
Movement and dance
encourages us to connect
with our bodies
-the more
connected we feel, the more
we begin to understand and
appreciate what our bodies do
for us. This can help nurture
positive attitudes towards our
wellbeing- movement, rest,
nourishment
Move it or lose it..
We stop moving and subsequently
feel so stiff! Movement gives us
space to breathe, release and
reconnect with ourselves, whilst
keeping our bodies limber.
Whether through energetic
movement or mindful stretching,
we create space to reconnect
with the body, reset the mind
and feel more grounded.
Inside and out..
Movement supports
circulation and lymphatic
flow, helping our bodies
carry out their natural
processes. By moving
regularly, we support our
inner health while
developing a stronger
awareness of what our
bodies need to feel well.
